The Euro India Research Centre participated in the EU-India Grid Interactive workshop at C-DAC, Bangalore, India. The workshop was organized with the objective of helping shape the future of EU-Indian Grid infrastructure. The workshop was attended by more than 40 representatives from research and industry and led by a team of Grid experts from Europe and India. The Interactive Workshop offered project partners and external participants an outstanding opportunity to discuss EU-India Grid middleware and infrastructure and explore the possibility of interacting with the project. The Workshop kicked off with an introduction to the EU-India Grid Project, which aims to foster scientific collaboration between the two regions and develop a strategy for interoperability essential for connecting the EGEE Infrastructure in Europe with the Garuda Grid Infrastructure in India. The opening presentations set the scene for two and a half days of dedicated sessions featuring a number of lively discussions. The sessions High on the agenda were the status of the EU-India intercontinental link & the Indian network; EU-India Grid Activities at BARC; and interoperability between different middleware. Contributions from industry included the IBM Grid Vision (IBM, India); Sun (India) and the Motorola Nanotechnology Programme. Additionally, the workshop provided two short interactive tutorials on the EGEE gLite middleware and the Garuda middleware. The dedicated sessions on applications illustrated how applications are ported onto the EGEE and Garuda infrastructures. In addition, several participants not currently belonging to the project had the opportunity to present their applications with their associated computational requirements, and to discuss the feasibility and advantages of running these applications on the EU-India Grid infrastructure. A variety of applications were presented and discussed, ranging from seismic modeling, to neural network performance and electronic properties of tailoring materials. The EU-India Grid Project is coordinated by the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN-Cagliari), Italy. The Consortium also includes the following partners:
