ANNOUNCING THE LAUNCH OF THE Euro India Research Centre (EIRC) - Catalyzing Euro-India research.

Bangalore, May 15th, 2007


The recently launched Euro India Research Centre represents an online INFORMATION & SERVICE platform to facilitate collaboration between EU and Indian organizations, covering various areas of the Seventh Framework Programme ranging from Food, Agriculture, Biotechnology, ICT, Transport and many others.
 
This Centre will carry forward the work of the INCITE project that has laid the foundation for the effective uptake of EU projects by Indian organizations. EIRC helps Indian organisations access and benefit from EU funding for research through a permanent platform for co-operation between India and the EU to promote co-operation at research level.

The mission of the Euro-India Research Centre is to drive innovation at the frontier of science and technology. In this mission, the EIRC is guided by the European Research Agenda with the ultimate aim of achieving the FP7 goals of growth and competitiveness.

Some of its primary activities include:

  1. PROMOTE JOINT RESEARCH between EU-India in various sectors of research within the EU Seventh Framework Programme.
  2. GUIDE Indian organizations on the OPPORTUNITIES available for R&D COLLABORATION
  3. FACILITATE LINKAGES between qualified organizations in India and  Europe 
  4. EXPOSE TECHNOLOGICAL COMPETENCIES of Indian organizations to potential European partners
 

EIRC Workshops on “India Mentor Project’’ at Bangalore and Pune – A grand success

Bangalore and Pune , June 14th -19th 2007.


The Euro India Research Centre (EIRC) along with its partners in the India Mentor project ( TESEO – Brussels, iiit-b – Bangalore and CDAC – Pune) , conducted the first round of Mentoring Workshops at Bangalore and Pune, to familiarize and mentor Indian ICT community about the Seventh Framework Programme, and its opportunities for Indian organizations. The workshops conducted both at Bangalore and Pune covered vital aspects of the Framework Programme, the rules for participation, rules and tips of writing a good project proposal and the different online mediums that assisted organizations in partner search.

EIRC AT BANGALORE: The EIRC workshop at Bangalore took place on the 14 and 15 June 2007 at the MS Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies (MSRSAS). The inaugural session witnessed a good blend of organizations (Universities, SMEs, MNCs etc) of about 75 people.

The First half of Day 1 dealt with the Framework Programme and its related presentations. The workshop gave an opportunity to a handful of Indian organizations who shared their experience and lessons learnt ,  with participating in past FP projects.

The forenoon session of Day 1 focused on the ICT Challenges open under Call 2 of the ICT theme namely Components, Systems, Engineering (CSE) ,  Sustainable and Personalized Healthcare (SPH) and Digital Libraries and Content (DLC). The sessions were conducted in concurrence. All the session was chaired by eminent speakers from the relevant industry. The following organizations came in with project ideas in the designated areas and made their presentations

    1. Components, Systems, Engineering (CSE) : Anna University, Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), I-wave systems, MS Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies (MSRSAS) and Esqube.
    2. Sustainable and Personalized Healthcare (SPH) : Boden, Thinkin Soft Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Katra soft, KUTPM International Medical School and M.S. Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies (MSRSAS), Medi galaxy and Dayanand Sagar Institutions (DSI).
    3. Digital Libraries and Content (DLC) : Metalearn,National Centre for Science Information (NCSI) IISC ,eKgaon and Enventure Technologies                                                                                                         

On Day 2 organizations re-presented their project ideas based on the feedback received from the EIRC team (ITSMA and TESEO) and also the respective chair persons.

EIRC AT PUNE: The EIRC workshop at Bangalore took place on the 18 and 19 June 2007 at Hotel Seasons, Pune. The event was organized by CDAC – Pune. The inaugural session witnessed a good blend of organizations (Universities, SMEs, MNCs etc) of about 85 people. The Programme format was similar to the one held at Bangalore.

    3. Digital Libraries and Content (DLC) : Aptech Limited, CDAC – GIST group, SPH Consultants, Congruent Solutions Pvt. Ltd, Magnet -I Technologies , Mumbai NPSF, CDAC Pune, Aftek Ltd,CDAC  Nodia, I2IT , NMRC,CDAC- Pune, Ravish Systems and C-DAC, Noida            .
    4. ICT for Mobility Environmental Sustainability & Energy Efficiency: Signion Systems, SECG, C-DAC, Pune, Gov 3 Ltd.                                      
    5. ICT for Independent Living and Inclusion : Net Informatics ( India) Pvt Ltd, University of Pune                                                                                      

On the Day 2 dealt organizations re-presented their project ideas based on the feedback received from the EIRC team (ITSMA and TESEO) and also the respective chair persons, similar to the workshop at Bangalore.

Both the workshops had a smooth flow and were highly appreciated by the participants and speakers.

EIRC participates in the “EU-India Grid Interactive workshop’’ at CDAC Bangalore

The Euro India Research Centre participated in the EU-India Grid Interactive workshop at C-DAC, Bangalore, India. The workshop was organized with the objective of helping shape the future of EU-Indian Grid infrastructure. The workshop was attended by more than 40 representatives from research and industry and led by a team of Grid experts from Europe and India.

The Interactive Workshop offered project partners and external participants an outstanding opportunity to discuss EU-India Grid middleware and infrastructure and explore the possibility of interacting with the project.

The Workshop kicked off with an introduction to the EU-India Grid Project, which aims to foster scientific collaboration between the two regions and develop a strategy for interoperability essential for connecting the EGEE Infrastructure in Europe with the Garuda Grid Infrastructure in India.

The opening presentations set the scene for two and a half days of dedicated sessions featuring a number of lively discussions. The sessions High on the agenda were the status of the EU-India intercontinental link & the Indian network; EU-India Grid Activities at BARC; and interoperability between different middleware.

Contributions from industry included the IBM Grid Vision (IBM, India); Sun (India) and the Motorola Nanotechnology Programme. Additionally, the workshop provided two short interactive tutorials on the EGEE gLite middleware and the Garuda middleware.

The dedicated sessions on applications illustrated how applications are   ported onto the EGEE and Garuda infrastructures. In addition, several participants not currently belonging to the project had the opportunity to present their applications with their associated computational requirements, and to discuss the feasibility and advantages of running these applications on the EU-India Grid infrastructure. A variety of applications were presented and discussed, ranging from seismic modeling, to neural network performance and electronic properties of tailoring materials.

The EU-India Grid Project is coordinated by the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN-Cagliari), Italy. The Consortium also includes the following partners:

EIRC participates in the “Euro India  ICT Co-operation Research Collaboration Workshop’’at New Delhi

The Euro India ICT Co-operation Research Collaboration Workshop was organized at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) – New Delhi, India.. The workshop was dedicated to research collaboration and offered Indian institutions an outstanding opportunity to understand how they could work with European organisations on competitive Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) projects funded by the European Commission.


The workshop provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of Europe’s Framework Programme 7, with particular focus on ICT programme and open calls covering a wide range of ICT domains, and international cooperation objectives to engage in research projects alongside European partners.
                        

Experts from both India and Europe shared their know-how and explain ed the ins-and-outs of EU-funded research projects with practical information on how to get involved in international research projects. ICT players from European & Indian academic and enterprise sectors were encouraged to attend.

 
EIRC makes a presentation at the  TEAM TECH 2007  - International Conference on Total Engineering , Analysis and Manufacturing Technologies - in the session “Opportunities of government funded R&D Projects for Engineering Educational Institution

Bangalore , 4th-6th October 2007 


TEAM TECH is an annual event conducted by the TEAM TECH Foundation, and Society for Innovation and Development (SID) of IISc along with several other renowned professional bodies. The annual event is organized with a view to :

  1. Provide a unified platform of interaction for practitioners involved in design, analysis and manufacturing domains. 
  2. Disseminate application knowledge by inviting industry leaders for case study presentations from diverse industrial sectors
  3. Introduce the industries to latest trends in computer aided technologies & facilitate their decision making 
  4. Align academic and R&D endeavors in CAD/CAE/RP/PLM towards industry needs
  5. Showcase the expertise of Indian engineering service and consultancy providers.

The event had a host of concurrent sessions focusing on  Micromachining & Microfabrication , Rapid Manufacturing Technologies, Reverse Engineering to Re-Engineering, Integrated Nano- biosystems, Quality Practices in FEM - CFD Procedures, Mechatronics and Automation, Manufacturing Challenges of Composite Products, Lean Product Development and the Opportunities of government funded R&D Projects for Engineering Educational Institution.

The symposium on the Opportunities of Government Funded R&D Projects for Engineering Educational Institutions focused on disseminating various aspects of Govt funded R&D projects namely Industry Funded / Sponsored Research, International Experience on Institute-Industry-Collaborations , Setting up TIFAC Centres of Excellence,  International Workshops / Projects with funding from UK / USA / Germany  /  Australia  /  Japan  and Exchange of Students / Research Scholars / Faculty Members.

Speakers addressing the session were from diverse  funding agencies such as AICTE, AR&DB, BRNS, CII, CSIR, DBT, DIT, DRDO, DST, ICMR, IFCPAR, INDO-US Science & Technology Forum, INSA, ISRO, ISTE, MHRD, NAL, National Science Foundation, NAFETIC, TIFAC - CORE, VSSC apart from Principal Investigators of on going Projects and  heads of Institutions running TIFAC – CORE Centres.

EIRC made a presentation on the Euro India Research Centre and its experience in International collaboration with Europe, with context to the EU’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), the specific programmes under FP7 ( ie Cooperation, Ideas, Capacities and People), Need for International collaboration, Rules for participation in the programme,  Funding Schemes and the Tips to optimize participation.

EIRC makes a presentation at the international FASSBINDER workshop on "Cooperative Investments in IT Software and Services: Europe, India and China".

The FASSBINDER project envisages examining the potential for India, China and European Union co-operation in software and services into the future.  The project analyses factors and attempts to determine some of the economic, social and cultural foundations on which such a future can be built and made to progress.

FASSBINDER is the first European project that will study and make a broader analysis of the intense Software and Services development (in India and China) and IT services market using a technology-based segmentation, while determining the rate of return on investment  (RoRI) for each of them as well as providing for international factors such as outsourcing, IPR, open source, etc

EIRC made a presentation in their workshop on “EU Strategies and funding for the ICT in FP7 (Call 3)” , keeping in line with the announcement for ICT Call 3. The Presentation touched upon the FP7 and a brief on its programmes , The ICT programme and also the challenges addressed under call 3 , the various funding schemes that can be opted for and also the tips to optimize participation in the Framework Programme.
