ICT 2008 @ Lyon
Europe's biggest research event for information and
communication technologies Beckons you!!!! |
|
The Euro India Research Centre (EIRC) with its partners
recently concluded its second round of EU India collaborative
workshops in the ICT sector, in the cities of New Delhi (January
29th-30th 2008) and Bangalore (January 31st-February 1st 2008). The
workshops commenced with a General Session where experts from EU and
India made presentations on the Seventh Framework Programme, rules
and regulations for participation, the currently open ICT Call and
its opportunities for Indian organizations, partner search and other
customized services offered by EIRC.
The cluster session, that then followed focused on the areas of
Digital Libraries and Content, Cognitive Systems, Interaction and
Robotics, FET and NMP. There were also specific panel sessions on
NEM in New Delhi and IPv6 in Bangalore in which many eminent
resource persons from EC and India discussed the future Euro-India
collaboration. The workshops brought together nearly 150 delegates
from industry and academia. |
|
Europe's biggest research event on Information and
Communication Technologies (ICT 2008) is proposed in Lyon. ICT 2008
will set the agenda for ICT research and innovation in Europe.
The event will host leading visionaries from academia and
industry and will address topics as diverse as Europe's role in
shaping the future internet, the role of ICT in advancing the
sustainability agenda and alternative paths for ICT components and
systems.
The event is an apt forum for researchers, innovators, engineers,
and business decision-makers in the field of digital technologies.
We at EIRC look to organize an information booth as well as an
EU-India networking session, and urge those who may be interested to
get in touch with us.

A call open
throughout the year: FET |

Information Society
The information society relates to "new
information and communication technologies" (ICT). It is about the
universal use of electronic exchanges of information, convergence
towards digital technologies, the exponential growth of the Internet
and the opening up of telecommunications markets.
Lisbon Strategy
In
March 2000 at Lisbon, the EU's political leaders set a new goal: to
become, within a decade, "the most competitive and dynamic
knowledge-based economy in the world, capable of sustainable growth
with more and better jobs and greater social cohesion.” This is the
basis of the Lisbon strategy.
European Technology Platforms (ETPs)
ETPs are pan-European technology initiatives
to assemble European companies, research institutions, financial
bodies and regulatory authorities to define a common research agenda
and mobilize a critical mass of public and private resources.

FET (Future and Emerging Technology) is the
IST Programme initiative for novel and emerging scientific ideas.
Its mission is to promote visionary research that may be high-risk.
FET is not constrained by the ICT Programme priorities but rather
aims to open new possibilities and set new trends for future
research programmes in Information and Communication Technologies.
FET is implemented through 2 schemes:
- FET-Proactive: a 'top down' approach which sets
the agenda for a small number of strategic areas holding
particular promise for the future. Deadline: 08
April 2008
- FET-Open: a 'roots up' approach available to
any ideas for long-term visionary research related to IST
